The observance of International Women’s Day traces its roots to the labor and feminist movements of the 20th century. In 1908, a group of female textile workers went on strike in New York, demanding better working conditions and rights. This event laid the groundwork for future feminist movements.

On March 8, 1911, a tragic fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist factory in New York claimed the lives of 123 women, mostly immigrants. This disaster raised public awareness about unjust and abusive working conditions, strengthening women’s resolve in the fight for their rights.

In 1917, during the Russian Revolution, Russian women chose March 8 to protest for their rights and suffrage. This event marked a crucial milestone and led to the official declaration of March 8 as International Women’s Day.
